Sebastian Ruthenberg

Sebastian Ruthenberg has only been playing poker a short time, but has quickly established himself as the leading German player of all-time. He discovered online poker accidentally – he was on a sports betting site, clicked a poker advert and started playing without even knowing the hand rankings. He spun up that initial deposit, and then lost it all a week later. It was an experience that made him determined to learn the game properly, and he hasn’t looked back since.

He’s a fearsome online player at PokerStars, and his best result is a second place in a No Limit Hold’em event at the 2007 WCOOP which netted him $260,184. Sebastian is one of the top performers on the PokerStars European Poker Tour. His first cash was a final table appearance on home soil at EPT Dortmund in Season 3, good for $288,283, and he followed that up with two further cashes in Season 4. Then came the biggest result of his career so far. Sebastian beat a field of 619 players to win EPT Barcelona, the opening tournament of Season 5. This was a huge victory with a pay day to match – as he took home $1,941,401. Cashes at EPT Prague and at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo followed, cementing his place as one of the biggest EPT earners of all time.

Not content with taking serious cash at EPT events, Sebastian has also proved himself on the other side of the Atlantic at the World Series of Poker*. In the middle of 2008 he won a gold bracelet and went on a red-hot winning streak. In June he won the WSOP* $5,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi Lo event for a pay day of $328,762, and then in September became EPT Barcelona champion. These two huge results saw him become the leading all-time German money winner, and his poker career moved to the next level.

When he’s not taking down poker tournaments, Sebastian likes to play pool, table tennis and soccer as well as relax with friends. He’s thrilled to join the team and compete alongside players that he used to watch on TV. He’s a member of Team PokerStars Pro and plays online at PokerStars using the screen name ‘S.Ruthenberg’.
